CELEBRATING THREE YEARS OF BLACK BABE MAGIC! We are turning three next month and will be putting on an in person celebration and fundraiser on 31st of October 5:30-9:30PM! Through the event we hope to: Raise money to cover our core costs (paying our core team, running our events, expanding our services to include mental health support) Raise awareness about ADHD in the Black community Showcase the work we have done over the last 3 years Showcase the talent of members of our community
On the night we will have activities, stalls, food, drinks, a DJ, live performances, raffle giveaway, panel discussion and a short presentation on ADHD & ADHD Babes. (A creche will be available for Mums and parents upon request!) At the end we will encourage attendees to donate or set up regular donations through our PayPal to fund our activities for 2024 so please do share with all your friends, family and networks! Our founder, Vivienne was invited to speak at the City of Westminster college for their wellbeing and support team. The workshop was around understanding ADHD, supporting students and pathways to diagnosis. It was a rich discussion and space with wonderful feedback from the team. Some feedback from the workshop: “Vivienne is an excellent speaker and knows how to engage her audience with interesting content. She interacts with her audience well.” “I enjoyed learning about the various types of ADHD. To add, learning about the experiences of someone with ADHD and how they navigate through life.” We are available for training sessions, workshops and talks around neurodiversity and ADHD. Prince Trust Staff TrainingWe were invited to speak on a panel discussing late diagnosis and ways to support young people who are neurodivergent. It was so lovely to be able to work with organisations who are focused on supporting the younger generation with inclusive practices! Dope Black Women - IG Live CollaborationIn honour of Neurodivergent Celebration Week in March, we linked up with Sabrina from Botanical By Brina and Roshan with Dope Black Women to talk all things ADHD 💜 You can watch the live HERE! BBC London Radio InterviewFor ADHD Awareness Month last year, Vivienne was interviewed by Dotun Adebayo to raise awareness about ADHD and the rates of underdiagnosis and lack of support among Black Women. Community CollaborationsLSE focus groupWe had our first focus group of the year discussing the 'racial wealth divide' for a research project with The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) organised by our babe - Babette!
It was so insightful to explore what wealth means to us as a community and we are excited for the final publication. Often the voices of Black disabled Women & Non-binary folk are not centered in research, even when the topic discussion involves us. It is so important that our input is present in research and studies that impact us. Thank you so much to the babes who joined us and our amazing host Babette May for holding the space so smoothly!

Black SEN Mama’s + The Black DyslexicWe were part of an online collaboration session with Black SEN Mama's & The Black Dyslexic! It was a space to explore and discuss being Black and ND, especially realising this in adulthood. We had people from all over join us for this sold out discussion, it was so rich and raw to discuss. |

Sip & PaintWe collaborated with Community Barnet and Black Blood matters to put on a two-part event to raise awareness on Live Organ and Blood Donations within the Black & BME Community while celebrating neurodiversity and difference.
We managed to sell over 100 tickets, had a rich discussion of real life experiences from panelists from the Black community, including the Black ADHD community. Many people learnt things about blood and organ donation that they never knew and were touched to learn more. To end the night we turned up with a live DJ and Sip and Paint session hosted by the Medela school!

PicKnit & ChillIn August, we had our first outdoor social - PicKnit & Chill! 🪡😎
This event was a laid back social to chill, connect and relax with different activities in nature. We literally ended up singing in the rain! The rain tried to play with us, so we played straight back!

Pottery Workshop & SocialWe ran our first pottery workshop, facilitated by Michelle Mtinsi, a ceramicist based in London, who also teaches regularly at Mud gang Pottery studio and Crown Works Pottery The session focused on practicing a variety of pottery techniques, from coiling and slab building, as well as having participants try out throwing on a potter’s wheel. A huge thank you to our babe Saramarie for organsing! |

Who’s funding us!This has been a game changing year for us and we are delighted to share we have received a number of grants to help us build and support our community!Building Stronger Communities - Mayor of London Outreach Program: This helped fund many workshops and events, including the Managing finances series, social events, managing ADHD symptoms & careers workshops. NSUN: This grant funded our support group and body doubling for 10 months! BAYO: This grant funded vital training, essential equipment and our first team away day. Black Funding Network: This grant funded 5 free assessments with Psychiatry UK and went a long way towards our 3 years celebration/fundraising event this month! The Lottery Fund: This grant has funded our socials this summer and will cover the costs of our workshops, events, paying our team of volunteers and lots more! We wouldn’t be where we are without our gracious community and funders. Thank you for all your support!

Scratch Night & Open Mic!
Calling all Black women and Black Non-binary folks with ADHD: join us for an electrifying evening of creativity, talent, and community at our first ever scratch night, a unique showcase of emerging artists at The Albany Theatre! Featuring an array of exciting new performances, including music, poetry, and theatre, by artists from our community, this platform for artistic exploration is also an opportunity for artists to receive audience feedback to continue refining the work we get to see on stage. Body-doubling & journaling
Sunday body doubling and journaling sessions take place weekly between 7:00-9:00PM (BST). Body-doubling is a tool that can help us start and maintain concentration during tasks by working with somebody else there.
