A letter to my darling girl whose brain is awesome as is her heart.

Letter to my darling girl whose brain is awesome as is her heart.

I am your biggest fan. You will go through many ups and downs during your school career, as well as in your life outside of school. We know that your learning differences can also be your learning strengths. In loving you, advocating on your behalf, empowering you, and parenting you I am also reparenting my inner child.

I am telling you this since I am also rebuking the ever-present imposter syndrome that lurks and looks for every opportunity to paralyze my progress. I am no longer defined by that trauma of the past whether inflicted at home or in care.

The love I have for you is helping heal away all the hurt. And, as a result, I no longer constantly hear the harsh treatment of my body, I no longer hear the curses, feel the sting of the whippings and beatings.  I am learning to no longer live in trauma. Oh, how devastating the universal mistreatment of a baby girl can be.

I made a pact with my 8-year-old self. I said If I ever grew up and have a daughter, I would show them just how to Love, Cherish and champion a Baby Girl with tenderness and emotional intelligence.  Now that has not been easy, given it wasn’t modelled nor taught to me. It can be particularly so when both our ADHD challenges conflict.  The above said, the wins far outweigh the additional burden and I am forever in awe. Just this past weekend you were gracefully teaching me how best to approach Wordle and Quordle. I am so very proud of you.

Just know, I am constantly trying my best. When I am down, I will continue to gently let you know so you don’t for one second think it is because I don’t love you. I am so committed to loving you correctly and abundantly and thus, lovingly reparenting myself the way I deserve and the way I should have experienced love as a child.

Go forth my LOVE, this world is yours for the taking. Remember to remain kind, witty, sassy, full of empathy and curiosity. Darling girl, never ever sell yourself short! You are more than enough!

The ancestors will surely guide you, look after you, and send your angels and helpmates your way when required. Remember, the universe is never too far away, always protecting us kind-hearted and sensitive individuals, clearing obstacles in our way since time immemorial.

Be assured that you must insist on showing up as yourself and that you will always remain Loved and Blessed.

Simply put, you are the love of my life, and I thank you for choosing me.

All my love “Mumika” x
